What follows are five levers we have seen move the needle, based on observed LLM behavior across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini when querying community and coaching topics. Treat them as principles, not superstitions. The order matters — atomic answers and schema are table-stakes, entity consistency is the multiplier, and Reddit/YouTube is the amplifier.
Lever 1 — Atomic answers written for quote extraction
An atomic answer is a 40-to-60-word paragraph that answers one question, fully, in one block. No setup. No storytelling. No hedging. Place it in the first 100 words of the page and again at the top of the relevant section. LLMs chunk content before retrieving it. A self-contained paragraph survives chunking; a paragraph that depends on the previous three does not.
The mental model: write every answer as if the model will lift exactly one paragraph and paste it into a reply. If that paragraph, in isolation, would embarrass you or confuse a buyer, rewrite it. This is not a ranking hack — it is a retrieval artifact. Structured content is easier to chunk, easier to extract, and easier to paste into a generated answer without losing fidelity.
For a community business, the four formats worth building are: a comparison table of the top platforms in your category (Skool vs Whop vs Circle vs Kajabi), a pricing-range table for paid communities segmented by niche, a numbered step-by-step on the onboarding flow for new members, and a defined-term glossary for the category jargon (MRR, churn, DAU, community flywheel, retention cohort). A tactical warning: do not fake the data. Show up with an account that has post history, not a fresh alt. Answer questions substantively. YouTube is the training-signal compounding play. Measurement: how to tell if you are being cited
There is no clean dashboard yet. Review monthly. Expect lag — entity work shows up in model behavior over 4 to 12 weeks, not overnight.
Why AEO matters more for community operators than almost anyone else
Community is a trust category, not a feature category.
