Teachable has four paid plans in 2026: Starter at $39 a month ($29 billed annually, plus a 7.5% transaction fee), Builder at $89 ($69 annually, 0% platform fee), Growth at $189 ($139 annually), and Advanced at $399 ($309 annually). Student and product caps decide which tier a growing community outgrows first.

Student and product caps decide which tier a growing community outgrows first.

AdvLaunch is the paid community growth agency, and we end up on this page from the other direction: we run the Meta ads and funnels that fill whichever Teachable plan a creator picks, so getting the tier math right before testing acquisition matters to us too. The plan is the smallest line item in a Teachable community's P&L — the number that decides whether it pays for itself is what it costs to turn a stranger into a paying student, which the pricing page never answers on its own.

A note on these figures

This run could not fetch teachable.com/pricing directly (blocked by network egress). Every price and limit below is third-party-reported, cross-checked across five independent trackers that broadly agree on the plan ladder and fee structure, checked 2026-10-09. Confirm current figures on teachable.com/pricing before quoting any of them to a prospect or client.

The Four Plans, Straight

Starter runs $39 a month, or $29 a month billed annually. It's the only plan carrying a platform transaction fee — 7.5% of every sale, on top of standard card processing — and trackers put its ceiling around 1 published product and roughly 100 students, which makes it a testing tier more than a growth tier.

Builder runs $89 a month, or $69 annually, and is the first tier to drop Teachable's platform fee to 0%. Reported limits are around 5 published products and 1,000 students — the jump most sellers make the moment Starter's 7.5% cut starts outweighing the $50 (or $40 on annual billing) price gap between the two tiers.

Growth runs $189 a month, or $139 annually, still at 0% platform fee, with reported limits around 25 published products and 5,000 active students. This is the tier most third-party trackers frame as the real "scaling" plan, sitting between Builder's single-cohort ceiling and Advanced's enterprise framing.

Advanced runs $399 a month, or $309 annually, also at 0% platform fee. One tracker notes Advanced sometimes lives in Teachable's help center rather than its public pricing page, which this run could not confirm directly — treat Advanced's current availability and exact limits as unverified until checked on teachable.com at time of writing.

Standard card processing applies on every plan, Starter included: reported at 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction for US cards and 3.9% plus $0.30 for international cards, separate from Teachable's own platform fee. Sources disagree on whether a free tier still exists in the 2026 lineup — some trackers list none, others describe a legacy free plan carrying its own per-sale fee — so don't assume one is available without checking live.

What Actually Changes Your Bill

The 7.5% Starter fee is the lever that decides whether staying on the cheapest plan is actually cheaper. The math: Builder costs $50 more a month than Starter on monthly billing ($89 − $39), or $40 more on annual billing ($69 − $29). Starter's 7.5% fee matches that gap once monthly sales revenue clears $50 ÷ 0.075 ≈ $667 (monthly billing) or $40 ÷ 0.075 ≈ $533 (annual billing) — a figure one third-party fee calculator arrives at independently for the annual case. Below that revenue line, Starter's percentage cut costs less in absolute dollars than Builder's flat price difference; above it, Builder is the cheaper plan even before counting the time saved not tracking a transaction fee.

At a $49-a-month community price, for example, that crossover lands around 11 paying members on annual billing ($533 ÷ $49 ≈ 10.9) or about 14 on monthly billing ($667 ÷ $49 ≈ 13.6). Run the same division against your own price point rather than trusting either number as a universal rule — neither the plan prices nor the 7.5% figure are vendor-confirmed this run, so treat the crossover as directional, not exact.

Student Caps and the Free-Tier Trap

Starter's roughly 100-student ceiling and Builder's roughly 1,000 are reported as total enrolled students, not just paying ones. A paid-community funnel that also captures free trial signups, lead-magnet opt-ins, or a free tier alongside the paid tier can push toward that ceiling well before the paying-member count alone would suggest — the same trap documented on Kajabi's contact limits in our Kajabi pricing breakdown. Budget headroom for the free and trial accounts your acquisition funnel will generate, not just the members who end up paying.

Which Plan Fits Your Community, by Stage

Teachable was built course-first, and its native community tools are thinner than a dedicated platform like Skool or Circle (see our Kajabi vs. Teachable comparison for how a similar course-first platform handles the same trade-off). If a course delivered through Teachable is still the core product and community is secondary, the plan question below applies directly. If community depth is the deciding factor, weigh platform choice before plan tier.

Which plan fits your community, by stage

Testing the offer, under 100 total signups

Start on Starter

$29-39/month covers it while you're validating; budget for the 7.5% transaction fee eating into early revenue, and track total signups (not just paying students) against the roughly 100-student ceiling.

Validated, 100-1,000 active students

Move to Builder

$69-89/month and the platform fee drops to 0% — run the break-even math above against your own price point before upgrading; most sellers cross it well before hitting the student ceiling.

1,000-5,000 students or multiple cohorts

Move to Growth

$139-189/month, still 0% platform fee, with room for a second product line or cohort structure without hitting Builder's lower ceiling.

How AdvLaunch Fits Into the Teachable Pricing Decision

Teachable sells you the classroom: hosting, checkout, a student dashboard, email. It doesn't sell you the students. Whichever plan you pick, ad spend, the page cold traffic lands on, and the follow-up that turns a click into a paying student all sit outside the price table — and once a cohort is past its first launch, those costs usually dwarf the plan-tier gap this whole page is about. We call the system that fills the plan The Community Flywheel™:

  1. Hook: a Meta ad sends cold traffic to a paid challenge or webinar we control, not straight to your Teachable sales page.
  2. Result delivered: over seven days or one live event, your method produces a real outcome, so people experience the teaching before they're asked to enroll.
  3. Community upsell: graduates get your Teachable course or community at a founder rate, with your existing email tool carrying the nurture between the event and the offer.
  4. Retention compounds: members arrive already bought in, and we measure retention against that campaign cohort instead of a generic course-completion benchmark.

If you're weighing a Teachable upgrade because growth feels stuck, run one check first: is the bottleneck the platform, or the number of people who ever see the offer? If it's the latter, the $3,000 Launch Pack is the cheapest honest test — in 30 days we design the paid challenge or webinar funnel, launch the Meta ads, build the landing page, set up the pixel and attribution, and hand you an end-of-sprint report with the real numbers, so a tier upgrade is a data decision, not a guess. Your ad budget is set with you on the strategy call; AdvLaunch never claims a guaranteed member count or result.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Teachable cost per month?

+

Starter is $39 a month ($29 billed annually), Builder is $89 ($69 annually), Growth is $189 ($139 annually), and Advanced is $399 ($309 annually). These figures are third-party-reported and checked 2026-10-09 — this run could not fetch teachable.com/pricing directly, so confirm current numbers before quoting them to anyone.

Does Teachable charge a transaction fee?

+

Only on the Starter plan, reportedly 7.5% per sale on top of standard card processing (2.9% + $0.30 for US cards). Builder, Growth, and Advanced are reported at 0% platform fee, which is usually the real reason sellers upgrade past Starter rather than any feature difference between the tiers.

Is there a free Teachable plan?

+

Unconfirmed, and sources disagree: some 2026 trackers list no free tier at all, while others describe a legacy free plan carrying its own per-sale fee. Don't build a launch plan around a free Teachable tier existing until you've checked teachable.com/pricing directly at the time you need it.

What's the cheapest way to avoid Teachable's transaction fee?

+

Upgrade from Starter to Builder, which reportedly drops the platform fee to 0%. The math favors upgrading once monthly sales revenue clears roughly the price gap between the two plans divided by 7.5% — work that division against your own numbers rather than assuming a fixed dollar threshold applies to every seller.

How many students can I have on Teachable's cheapest plan?

+

Starter is reported at roughly 100 total students, not just paying ones — free trial signups and lead-magnet opt-ins typically count against the same ceiling. A paid-community funnel that captures non-buying leads can hit that cap faster than a course-only seller running the same plan would expect.

Can AdvLaunch help me pick and fill a Teachable plan?

+

We don't sell Teachable plans, but once you've sized a tier against your student-count ceiling, the Launch Pack ($3,000, a 30-day sprint) builds the challenge or webinar funnel and runs the Meta ads that fill whichever plan you picked. The platform fee is the smaller cost here; paid acquisition into the plan is the bigger one.
